The third generation iPhone SE has recently come with several updates, making it an attractive option for first time iPhone users or budget users. Although it’s a little more than its direct counterpart, it’s the most expensive brand new iPhone model Apple has ever sold.
In this hands-on iPhone SE 3 best features video, we see what’s new, compare it to the previous generation iPhone SE 2, and discuss some of the good features. We also wonder why it would be better to buy an iPhone 11 instead, and still buy it for $ 70. And don’t forget to subscribe to 9to5Mac on YouTube for iPhone SE 3 videos.
Small size and body home button
The design of the iPhone SE 3 may look negative, but some people prefer the design of this phone for two things: the small format factor and the physics home button with Touch ID. I do not have to explain why the portable iPhone is desirable – my favorite smartphone of all time is the iPhone 13 Mini – but the idea of a physical home button may appeal to those who have trouble mastering the gesture-based setting in iOS. ஆக. Furthermore, I think the epidemic reminded many of us of the value of having a Touch ID available for biometric authentication.

Following the same model set up by the previous model, the iPhone SE 3 has the same processor as the current generation flagship iPhone 13 series. Like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, the iPhone SE 3 comes with a powerful A15 bionic system on one chip, with a six-core CPU with two performance cores and four high-performance cores.
The A15 Bionic offers a significant upgrade over the iPhone SE2, with the A13 Bionic chip now featured on the two generations older iPhone 11. The A15 Bionic was known for its performance when it was released last September. The previous A14 was performance-wise, but it also helped with better battery life.
But this is not just about battery life or source speed. The A15 offers other benefits such as Smart HDR4, photographic styles and Deep Fusion. The image signal processor in the A15 improves video quality, enhances the appearance of skin tones and provides less noise in low light scenes.
If you own a second-generation iPhone SE, considering the upgrade, you’ll definitely not notice the huge performance improvements, but the A15 is significantly faster, paving the way for improved battery life and opening up new photo – centered features.
5G cellular connection
The 5G cellular connection is a welcome new addition to the iPhone SE 3, which does not have an exaggerated millimeter-wave connection, but supports the most effective low and mid 5G spectrum. I have never been able to get a connection since the introduction of the iPhone 12 in my local area because Verizon and others exaggerated the MMW, because users have to be within a ‘spit’ distance from the MMWave cell tower.
But low-band 5G is very effective, especially in rural areas, and the fast mid-band 5G spectrum – also known as the sweet spot of the 5G layer cake – offers faster speeds and the ability to penetrate walls over long distances. In other words, do not miss the so-called “true” mmWave 5G found on the iPhone 13, because in most cases you will not get it anyway.
Increased battery life
Even with the same dimensions and design, the iPhone SE 3 has improved battery life than its direct counterparts. Combined with a slightly larger battery with updated chemistry, the A15’s performance improvements offer a further two hours of video playback and 10 extra hours of audio playback.
If you come from an older iPhone like the iPhone 6s, you will be even more impressed. Apple claims that the third generation iPhone SE offers four hours of video playback better than the iPhone 6s.
Smart HDR 4 and Deep Fusion
The iPhone SE 3 has the same wide-angle camera as the iPhone SE 2, however it gets two major photo-related upgrades with Deep Fusion and Smart HDR4.
The Smart HDR4, the fourth generation of Apple’s brilliant HDR, uses unique changes to both subjects, contrast, color and background for noise. It does so by incorporating the best parts of individual expressions into one photo.
Introduced with the iPhone 11, the Deep Fusion A15 Pionic is powered by a 16-core neural engine. Deep Fusion, an image processing system that uses advanced machine learning, captures nine photos and combines them to select the best of each. It then performs pixel-by-pixel photo processing on textures, noise and details. In most cases, deep fusion should reduce noise and increase detail, especially in high-rise areas such as sweaters and animal fur.
Introducing the release of the iPhone 13, the photographic styles allow you to use specific styles during capture while preserving skin tones, and also allow you to preview the look before taking a picture. Users get access to four different customizable styles: rich variation, vibrant, hot and cold. You can customize the tone and warmth settings for each style, and each setting will be consistent.
Priced at $ 429
Although the iPhone SE 3 will see a $ 30 price increase compared to the iPhone SE 2 released in 2020, I think it’s a reasonable price for a smartphone with Apple’s latest system and 5G cellular capability. You can get the iPhone 11 for more than $ 70, which offers a dual camera system with an ultra-white camera. If you are a big fan of photography, the iPhone 11 at $ 499 is a must-have option as it has a remarkable excellent rear and front facing camera system with support for 4K video capture and a 6.1-inch display with Face ID.
Beyond that, the next cheap iPhone that Apple sells is the iPhone 12 Mini $ 600. In my opinion, if you buy the iPhone SE for $ 429, the price increase of the 12min, a smartphone with a history of battery life issues, is not really on the cards.
Same monotonous design and colors
I added the design to my list of best features for the iPhone SE 3 because some people really enjoy the small shape factor and the physics home button. But for those of you who are primarily attracted to the iPhone SE 3 because of its price, the old long-in-tooth iPhone 8-time design may look negative. The screen, 4.7-inch, is smaller than the iPhone Mini, and it really feels like a barrier to use, while the larger bezels make the device feel ten years older.
On top of that, the iPhone SE colors are also very boring. The colors may have different names – starlight and midnight – and slightly different shades, but Apple would like to experiment with less pedestrian color ways.
No night times
Of all the camera features missing from the iPhone SE 3, Night mode is the most practical. Night mode allows you to take photos with low volume in low light, using long exposures. I do not consider night mode to be a “pro” feature or an advanced feature. Anyone who takes photos with their smartphones will benefit from the best low light photos, so it is unfortunate that it is not included in the iPhone SE 3.
Same 7MP front-facing camera
The iPhone SE has the same 7MP front-facing camera with ƒ / 2.2 aperture as the 2nd generation iPhone SE. Although this is a nice improvement over the awkward 1.2 megapixel front shooter found on the original iPhone SE, selfie cameras have improved a lot over the last several years.
The iPhone SE 3 is rumored to support Apple’s MagSafe technology, one of the best innovations in smartphones over the years. MagSafe, introduced with the iPhone 12, is a magnetic quick-connect technology used by Apple and third-party subsidiaries. There are MagSafe-enabled chargers that charge faster than standard Qi chargers, MagSafe battery packs, MagSafe-enabled wallets and, of course, MagSafe cases.
It’s really disappointing that the iPhone SE 3 does not support MagSafe. Admittedly, this would have been a huge change in the design of the iPhone SE, which would have increased the costs, but this is also one of the features I hate not having. As you can see from the photos below, the MagSafe battery pack and MagSafe Wallet are compatible with the dimensions of the iPhone SE 3, but with its current redesign, the phone does not have the internal components to function.
The iPhone SE follows the tradition of its predecessors very well. It offers the latest and best layout on the chip in an old budget chassis. Performance is similar to the current generation iPhones, but despite the adoption of the iPhone SE 3, 5G, many of the modern smartphones do not have the same bio features.
iPhone SE 3 will delight brand new iPhone users and those coming from older iPhones. But by 2022, this body style and small 4.7-inch display feels completely outdated. If photography and videography are important scales to you, the iPhone 11 is the best device of its kind.
The iPhone 11 comes with a huge 6.1-inch edge-to-edge screen, excellent dual camera system with ultra wide camera, Night Mode support, high resolution TrueDepth front-facing camera and Face ID authentication support for just $ 70. And in this regard, one can certainly argue that the iPhone 11 is the best buy, despite having a slow A13 system on a chip approaching the age of three and no support for photo styles or smart HDR. 4.
The way Apple supports older hardware – the original iPhone SE enables iOS 15 to cry out loud – I will not have to worry too much about having the A13 Bionic many years old.
