In a fantastic second half of Tottenham Hotspur they split the Aston Villa team into a 4-0 final at Villa Park.
The only question in the line-up was whether Sergio Reguilon or Ryan Cெcez would recover from a left-wing back injury. Antonio Conte, especially when Matt Doherty is in fantastic form, decided not to risk it. Both were on the bench, however, they are available, and still have 90 minutes to go.
3 ‘- A little spicy to start with three quick mistakes between the two sides.
4 ‘- Cole Tottenham Hotspur! (Son) – Spurs put pressure after a mistake and goes to dangerous level. Kane throws a shot into the body of a defender, which falls to Sony. He takes a big slip and kisses the inside of the post, making it squeak inside the house. Perfect start, 1-0!
8 ‘- Matt Doherty is still down after a tough challenge. He tries to stop it so he can come back in, but he pushes harder.
10 ‘- Doherty came down again and signaled to the bench. Sergio Regulan is getting ready on the bench after a very quick warm-up.
13 ‘- He’s going to try one more time. It can be a deep wound after a tough challenge, so it depends on how much he can tolerate where things don’t stop.
14 ‘- Solid savings from Hugo Loris after a cash shot from a distance!
17 ‘- And another! Villa Slice opens the defense when Jacob Ramsey comes into the net, but Hugo simply saves a point to send it over the crossbar.
19 ‘- Hugo again! McGinn gets a long distance crack on the way to the web. Somehow the captain makes another big save.
20 ‘- Well this is going to go out of hand. Villa’s challenges may get the ball rolling at first, but the pursuit is brutal.
21 ‘- Alternative, Tottenham Hotspur: Doherty can’t go any further. Sergio Regulan is coming for him.
22 ‘- It’s time we look at a card. Ings is shown in yellow for the late challenge. The referee must quickly gain control of the match.
24 ‘- Jacob Ramsay is now down for the villa. He may have been wounding himself in an attempt to kill Pentagon.
28 ‘- Spurs lucky in set piece for villa. A flap above is perfect for feeding Ings, but the striker throws it all over.
29 ‘- Hojbjerg goes into the book for his challenge on Goodinho. Question booking given some of the challenges we have seen so far.
32 ‘- The villa will keep us open. Godinho is on the third attack and goes with Olly Watkins. The intervening effort is too much and ends up on the stand. Control the Spurs and get some possessions or this lead is not going to last.
34 ‘- Cub with receipt on Watkins. But first got the ball. That’s the rule, right people?
35 ‘- Spurs get a free kick after McGin’s challenge. This match is not likely to end as 11th and 11th. If that happened then it would be a miracle.
37 ‘- Keep everyone tight. Hugo makes another save after Watkins is trapped. This is another corner of the villa.
38 ‘- Prabhu. I do not know how Villa did not score, especially in that. Ramsay passed the ball inside, and the Mengs flicked it to Ings. He is alone, but scatters it wide for a goal kick.
43 ‘- Oh man, Spurs got the prize on the regulan shot. Good storage, but Mengs sent it almost to his own web. Martinez took the diversion, and it was in a corner.
45 ‘- There will be an additional five minutes.
45 ‘+ 1’ – Villa crying for a penalty in a clear attempt for a mistake that did not exist. So much fun, honestly.
45 ‘+ 3’ – Cash gets another try, which is a side volley, but Hugo makes another save. That’s only six in this half.
45 ‘+ 5’ – Hugo stands head over heels today. A torn free kick almost lurks in the post, but Loris somehow saves two fists to deny Villa gain. Saves seven.
Part time: Let everyone breathe. Spurs highlighted Villa 1-0 after a violent and chaotic half.
46 ‘- There is no change in the order of the two sides. Let’s see if violence is still on the menu.
47 ‘- This. McGinn cut Hojbjerg to make a mistake.
48 ‘- Another offense against Villa and they continued to complain after each other. If you are going to play violently, get used to it.
50 ‘- Cole Tottenham Hotspur! (Kulusevsky) – Give me a ginger! This is absolutely nothing. Loris sends it a long time, and Kane sends it to the tech. It’s a pretty ridiculous shot and angle, but it’s a bar because he sends it to the corner of the web. 2-0!
53 ‘- Did Mengs go down to the villa after the goal and become a flare-off on the stand? Another day of the game of football.
54 ‘- Spurs broke again at the counter after a terrible pass from the villa. Tech’s pass to Sunny is a bit high, otherwise it could be 3-0.
61 ‘- This match is even more spicy. Whistles Royal Chap Down, but avoids booking.
66 ‘- Cole Tottenham Hotspur! (Son) – Absolutely brilliant counter-attack football. Romero makes a long pass to Kane, who makes a simple picture in his head to free Sunny. One touch, one shot, one goal. 3-0!
70 ‘- Alternative, Aston Villa: Poundia and Bailey come for the villa.
72 ‘- Cole Tottenham Hotspur! (Son) – Hat trick for Sunny! Techie plunged deep into the third inning, took it to the touch line and faked the Menz. A simple grass bag and perfect bass allow Sony to use the web once. 4-0 and it was all over except crying.
74 ‘- Emerson goes to the book for the mistake on Digne.
78 ‘- Alternative, Tottenham Hotspur: Sunny picks up a bow as Lucas makes his way to Maura.
80 ‘- Alternative, Aston Villa: Ashley Young comes to the injured Dickney.
82 ‘- – Ashley Young does it from the pitch for 90 seconds. He has no intention of playing that ball when he goes into the book for his challenge. Absolute junk challenge.
84 ‘- Alternative, Tottenham Hotspur: Steven Bergwijn looks at the tech. Another amazing performance for the former Juventus player.
88 ‘- At the end of the aisle the weeds are in full swing. This second half was great and they enjoy themselves.
90 ‘- McGinn’s whining about Canal nutmeg is the perfect summary of Villa’s day.
90 ‘+ 1’ – Kane gets a yellow card for a cynical challenge.
90 ‘+ 2’ – Hugo steps back on a set piece, but he gets a one-touch touch to protect his clean sheet.
Full time: Spurs beat Aston Villa 4-0. The best second half for the final Champions League spot and the Spurs take great advantage of the rest of the field.
Thoughts about competition
- The counter-attack of this team is immense. Spurs split the villa twice from nothing in the second half. Hugo and Romero’s long balls were fantastic to set those goals. Sunny is dangerous and Kane’s ability to pass is still universal.
- Villa’s tactics of “kill anything that moves” kept the Spurs on their back heels in the first half. It would be different if there were real bookings, but who am I to question the EPL referee?
- Despite Sunny’s hat trick, my man of the match is Hugo. Seven saves in the first half and any one of them could have changed the course of this match. Villa Kitchen Singh threw at him and he responded to every last shot.
- What else can be said about tech? He has been involved in this attack as he has been playing with Kane and son for years. We appreciate Juventus business.
- Spurs are now completely flying. Since losing to Burnley, Spurs have taken 18 of 21 points to beat their opponents 25-5.
- Spurs are now three points ahead of Arsenal in fourth place. The Gunners have a match at hand but Spurs now enjoy a +10 advantage in goal difference.
- Two tweets you should see:
Spurs have scored more PL goals this season under Antonio Conte (appointed in November) than Arsenal did under Arteta.
