On Sunday, actor Harry Lennix wrote a guest article Variety It is titled “Will Smith Withdraw His Oscar to Restore Award Honors”. In the piece, Linux suggested that Smith return the trophy for Best Actor to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Lenix, a longtime member of the academy, expressed his displeasure with Smith for hitting the rock at the 94th Oscars. During his acceptance speech he discussed the use of God to justify attacking rock, and the academy banned Smith for 10 years, which he called the “toothless” answer.

In the end, Lenix said, Smith caused a “stain” on the Academy and Oscars, and he had to return his award. Smith wrote a fake statement to present if he would send his trophy back to the academy: “In honor of the 94 years of honor bestowed on this award, in good conscience I do not feel it deserves to be its defender.”

Lynx rhetoric about the honesty of the Oscars stands out above all else. Lynx wrote that the Oscars robbed Smith of his “honor,” “grace,” and “value” by his room. But does that award show that a warrant has been placed on this pedestal?

Will Smith was banned from the Oscars for 10 years for slapping Chris Rock

How could Smith have tainted something that was already tainted? The honesty of the trophy was compromised before Smith told Rock without mentioning his wife’s name.

The Oscars are generally not a company that embraces the work and input of black filmmakers or actors in particular. In its 94-year history, only six black people have won Best Actor or Actress: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Forrest Whitaker and Smith.

In all, only 20 black actors in all of its history have won an Oscar. The aforementioned, as well as Lou Cossett Jr., Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Monique, Hottie McDonnell, Mahershala Ali, Hopi Goldberg, Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Hudson, Lupita Nyongo, Regina King, Juana Giuseppe and Cuba.

It speaks to the fact that two pre-teen girls (Datum O’Neill and Anna Buckwin) won an Oscar before a black woman could win Best Actress. Is that the academy trying to protect Linux?

By 2020, only 19 percent of Oscar voters are of color, and 33 percent are women. This has happened despite the academy’s efforts to increase diversity among its members since the 2016 #OscarsSoWhite campaign. Even with so many new additions, the academy is still mostly white and male.

It is not surprising that the Academy is anxious to acknowledge that many films featuring Black and Black stories are in undesirable settings. Lynx once spoke out against it The Butler by Lee Daniels In 2013, he called it “historical pornography” and called the original book “ni ** erfies”, giving audiences “nonsensical, ludicrous, pioneering ideas about black people.”

When Chef Cut to the 2014 Oscars, the Academy has chosen to celebrate Black films and shows that are not like that. Zero Black Filmmakers has won the Best Director award, and six directors have been nominated for films that clearly deal with racism or Black hardships.

Zada Pinkett Smith came out in support of Shonda Rhymes and Debbie Allen

Since the Oscars are mainly focused on black films, white films do not have to face white, does that not diminish the honesty of the award?

Now, let’s talk about the festival and some of the restless acts it witnessed. McDonnell, the first African American to win an Oscar, was unable to attend the ceremony and the story written for him with his acceptance speech was tragic. Doesn’t that detract from the honesty of the award?

Lynx wrote that Smith’s return to the Oscars was “the only hope for fair mercy.” How he felt when Adrian Brady won the Best Actor award when he kissed Halle Berry without permission at the 2003 Oscars. Pianist? Is it an act of mercy or an attack? If Brady had done it on the street or in a restaurant, would it have been beautiful, or would it have been intrusive and disrespectful?

One obvious problem that Linux has with Smith’s “severe moral failure” is that King Richard The actor used God to justify his actions. What would he call the response to Sachin Littlefeather’s presence at the 1973 Oscars, even though Smith’s actions were actually “complete man”?

Marlon Brando won his second Academy Award for his role The Godfather, And worthy. Instead of grasping the pride of his success among the Hollywood elite, he sent activist Littlefeather to explain that he would not accept the award because of the opposition, with his Native American costume in full.

It is a selfless act, a small sacrifice to focus on the crisis affecting disenfranchised Native Americans. Was it appreciated? No.

Actor and Oscar winner John Wayne was so determined to physically remove Littlefeather from the stage that he had to be forcibly restrained. Oscar-winning Clint Eastwood made a thin joke at his expense following Littlefeather’s exit: “I don’t know if I should give this award to all the cowboys who have been shot in the John Ford Westerns for years. . “

Linix said most of the 94th Oscar action was “often defamatory.” What could be more disgusting than the two white male actors who re-enacted violence in real life on Hollywood’s biggest night, humiliating Native Americans and gaining fame on the big screen? Where was the honor that night?

A year ago, the Academy presented the Best Actor award as the last award of the evening instead of the Best Picture. As we waited to see the late Chadwick Boseman win Best Actor posthumously, the world expected it to be a move to highlight him. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. But he did not succeed. Anthony Hopkins did.

Smith bangs on SNL 'News Announcers' with humor

Boseman won both the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe for his role. In the last 30 years, 24 of the 30 people who won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor went on to win an Oscar later that year. If Boseman did not win, why change that award even after the best film last for many years? If it’s a misguided or passive-aggressive practical joke, it’s more hurtful than the Rocks. GI Jane Tease.

Many believe – whether Smith slapped the rock to protect his wife – that there is no place to do it during a TV show. With so many events already absorbing it, why should Smith restore his Oscar to its honesty? If Harvey Weinstein was convicted of a sexual assault, why not keep Smith?

This is not case lighting or wat-about-ism in an attempt to divert attention from Smith’s actions. Considering all this history that the academy has allowed for so many years, did not the 94th Oscars really come to a moment like this?
