Jay Leno weighs in on Will Smith’s behavior at the Oscars, where he slaps Chris Rock in the face for teasing his wife, Jada Pinkett about Smith’s bald head.

Smith, 53, walked from his front row seat to the stage and made a swing on the rock with his open palm. Smith went back to his seat and shouted at Rock to leave Pinkett Smith alone. Rock replied that he was just making a “GI Jane” joke – and Smith yelled at him a second time.

Smith shouted at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth,” and the crowd calmed down when it became clear that this was no action.

This moment shocked the Dolby Theater audience as well as the audience at home. During the business break, presenter Daniel Calua went to hug Smith, and Denzel Washington led him to the side of the stage. The two talked and hugged, and Tyler Perry also came to talk.

The incident led to an investigation by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Leno shared his opposition to the trial.

Eventually, the Academy announced its decision to ban Smith Oscars For 10 years. The decision was made after a meeting of the academy’s board of governors to discuss the response to Smith’s actions. A week before the meeting, the actor resigned from the academy.

“The 94th Oscars were seen as a celebration of the many people who did incredible work in our community last year; however, those moments were obscured by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith reveal on stage,” the panel said. The governors said in a letter.

“I accept and respect the decision of the academy,” Smith said in a statement following the verdict.

Smith announced his resignation on April 1, saying he had “betrayed the trust of the academy”. Smith said he “missed the opportunity to celebrate other nominees and winners” and said he would accept any consequences from the group.

When he received the Best Actor award for his role in “King Richard”, Smith first apologized for his action within minutes of slapping Rock.

“I want to apologize to the academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees,” Smith said. “It’s a beautiful moment.”

Smith apologized again the next day for targeting the comedian in an Instagram post.

“Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive,” Smith wrote. “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and unforgivable. Rock has not yet publicly shared his thoughts on the incident. However, in his first comedy show after the Oscars in Boston, he told a crowd that “what happened was still a kind of process.”
