Chin was 59 years old and an experienced businessman and restaurant when he and his daughter Marilyn Ledorno opened an upcoming restaurant to define her heritage.
The goal was better: to run a seafood restaurant thousands of miles away from where the best fresh seafood is caught.

Chin was born on March 2, 1923, in Toulouse, Minnesota, the third of seven children, according to a profile on Bob Chin’s website. His parents, Wai and Yung Shi Aung Chin, emigrated from Toyshan, a city near Macau in southeastern China. His parents ran a restaurant in Chicago, and the family lived in two blocks from Wrigley Field, which sparked the kids’ interest throughout Bob’s life.
Some businesses start with a spark of inspiration. In the case of Chin, that spark is a real fire. He opened his first restaurant, The Golden Pagoda, in Evanston, using equipment his parents sold him after their restaurant was damaged in a fire, according to Popcin’s website.
Many restaurants have followed him for decades, but nothing compliments him as much as his named Crab House.
The restaurant’s Facebook post announcing the news generated hundreds of comments, such as “He never failed to make us feel like guests in his own home” and “We’ve been going to Pop Chin for decades”. Many said that Chin always greeted them with a smile and that they gave events like how he gave free mimosas to people waiting in line.
